Technorati is indexing me again! They had to make a code change to fix the problem with my blog getting stuck in their queue. Kudos to Eric M. and the guys at GetSatisfaction.com where they have "community powered support for Technorati".
Well, they're "sorta, kinda" indexing me anyway. It's on a 24 hour tape delay or something. So I never get picked up by Memeorandum because they pull from Technorati and Technorati has stuff I posted yesterday listed as my latest blog entry. And that's old news to Memeorandum.
Wankers.
Recent headlines from my Posterous Blog:
It seems like a great idea — New Jersey will now require health insurance companies to cover the cost of therapy for autism and developmental disabilities. Governor Jon Corzine plans to sign the legislation today.
The proposal requires health insurance companies to cover the cost of autism treatment deemed medically necessary, including speech and occupational therapy, with an annual cap of $36,000. It also mandates coverage for behavioral therapy, which includes exercises to help autistic children do everyday activities like making a sandwich.
Supporters of the measure say autistic children will receive therapy early in their lives that they'll need to live productive lives. Opponents, while sympathetic, said it will drive up health care costs for small businesses.
Health insurance premiums are spiraling out of control. Autism therapy is expensive, and the cost of that therapy will now be passed along to you and me. Our premiums will go up even more. And therein lies the rub.
How can we expect to reduce health care costs when our politicians keep imposing these mandates? New Jersey has more mandated coverages than any other state. And consequently our health insurance premiums are among the highest in the nation.
Many small businesses are barely hanging on. The escalating cost of health insurance forces them to make some difficult choices. They can maintain a health plan for their workers, but reduce staffing to counter the effect of the higher premiums. Or they can drop their health insurance plan and leave their employees to seek coverage in the individual market. Neither choice is particularly compelling.
Autism coverage is but one of the many sympathy-inducing conditions that politicians and activists use to impose these costs on us. Last year it was post-partum depression (resulting in "free" mental health counseling). The year before that breast cancer awareness created a mandate for "free" mammograms. Next year another tug on our heartstrings will undoubtedly bring us a new mandate.
We have to stop loading these additional costs onto the backs of our residents
and small businesses. No more insurance mandates.
